It’s Monday, again

Monday’s are just not my favorite day. I never feel fully rested; I’m trying to lay out the week ahead, I’m annoyed enough things didn’t get accomplished over the weekend, etc. Monday’s just suck. But the good news is, its just a day and it will be over quickly.

I slept terrible last night. I didn’t feel great, went to sleep at like 8:30. Two kiddos ended up in our queen size bed in the middle of the night, and you know that is crowded. I was hot, then cold, then sweating. Before I knew it my alarm was going off, and I just told myslef I’m not ready to get up. I went to the kids bed and slept another hour. Sometimes you just need to do that for yourself. We are serioulsy sitting down and telling the kids NO MORE SLEEPING IN OUR BED! Its just so hard when they come in in the middle of the night, I’m half out of it and don’t want to argue. I know this is the lazy way out and no one wins in the end. Anyone else have this problem?

I’m racking my brain for what happened this week. Its kind of a blur. M T Th Sat was cheer. Ive been trying hard to walk the track while Ellie’s at these practices. Gotta do something with those 2 hours. I’ll be sad once the nice weather is gone and its pouring rain.

Friday I had the day off work and got to hang out with Baby Bailey. We all unfortunately just had to hang out at the car dealership. The car needed an oil change, and then I got the good news that I need tires. I knew this was coming. They warned me the last time I was in that the tread was low. Now my inner and outter tread were done, and I was just running on middle tread. Its all very technial appearantly. Tread depth, and all these numbers. I was like look guy, you gotta write this down because 1) I gotta baby on my hip and a 4 yr old standing here, so I’m not really paying attention to you; 2) I have no clue all these details your telling me and have to relay it to Kyle anyways.¬† So in the end and $900 later we got new tires. Kyle texted asking me how they look, I’m thinking “really?” they look black becasue they are tires. If I spend $900 on something I would prefer to have something really exciting to show for it. But I know tires are just one of the realities of life. No one tells you this when you’re 18, dang adult life!

Then Friday night was the BIG rival football game, Capital Cougars v Olympia Bears. And the highlight was that the University of Washington marching band came and performed. Such a great experience for the kids in the band program. Their cheerleaders/dance team came too. I was a little shocked at their performance, and I don’t consider myslef a modest person. But this was a high shcool game, and that performance was way too provactive. I never knew band music could be danced to like that. That type of ass shanking needs to be saved for the club. I’ll get off my old lady/mom rant now. It was a great night, and the Cougars WON!

Saturday was the auction for our local school. It only happens every other year, thank goodness. We always have a “really” good time. And the next day we always ask oursleves why we stayed up so late, drank too much, etc. This year was a 70’s theme and everyone really got into it. I think some of the older people outshined us youngsters ūüôā I wish I had taken more pictures, but I was too busy chatting. Kyle almost won us an iPad air. It was a game they played where you had to pick heads or tails (by placing your hands on your head or your butt) and then the host flipped the coin. Kyle kept winning! out of the whole crowd, he was in the top 4. Well, he lost in the end, which is probably OK. Because the host was like “you should really just give iPad back to the school for the kids” and the lady did! which is awesome, I probably would have been like “I am! its for MY kids which are students, win-win”. This is probably why we didn’t win.

House news is SO not exciting. The trusses are engineered. We have to change a few walls in the bounus room for the truss sizes, so kyle made those changes to the floor plan this weekend.  For example, there was a 18 ft wall in the front, and it had to be made to 16ft, and then the other wall was like 24 ft, and had to be made to 22ft. So we lost a few sqft, and that is totally OK. So last weeks goal of having plans all submitted to the county this week were scraped, shocker. Kyle was like look, October 1 is the reality. This is what our command center for everything house looks like, good thing no one eats dinner at this table.

One good thing is we had called the school a week or so ago and had them submit the letter to the county that our disctrict does not have an impact fee. That is good because appearantly on the 17th this month, a impact fee goes into effect! Which is like $2k. So we got that in just in the nic of time.

In news that you can look forward to, I should have some really good stories for next week. The matriarch of the family, Grandma Annie, will be staying with us this week. I know right, how can one more single person fit in this house! Luckily she brought her monsterous of a motor home down yesterday. A cousin is getting married Saturday, and Gma Annie and Sue are doing the flowers. So I just know its gonna be chaotic and Sue will be in a dither. I am going to invest in a few bottles of wine. So stay tuned to those stories next week.

Inspiration: Front Doors

Doors I feel are such a focal point. And something that really makes a statmement about your house and what you are about to walk in to. The minute I saw this door, I said this is THE door for my house. Whats not to like.

Paul Moon Design: Yarrow Point House
If I will have a black door, blue door, yellow door or red I do not know yet. But it looks great in fun colors too
For those of you that missed out on my artwork on Mondays post, here is some more with me attempting to still pick colors. So you get an idea of where our door is placed, etc.
I know, you’re amazed at my skills. Its like an exact version. I’m a visual person and I have to see it somehow on paper or person to understand what it will look like. Telling me does not work. I charge a small design fee if you like to send me pics, I can color your house too ūüôā I’m sure my inbox will be overflowing with requests.
Now as you can see from our exterior , there is a family entrance/mud room entrance whatever you want to call it. Here I want a dutch door.

Don’t go visit, her blog outshines mine. j/k
I doubt my mudroom will ever look this clean. Maybe on day 1, but doubtful. There is no poll for this inspiration because my mind is made up on these decisions. 1 of 1000 I know. Hope you like my inspirations. See you Monday. ÔĽŅ

This weeks episode of Camus Road…

I was going for a dramatic sounding title…like a soap opera “Days of our lives” or something. So hopefully that came accross. I’ll start working on a sound app or something. Anyway….This week we’ve had a burst in sunshine for that last bit of summer. Which was really nice, because we know that I love the sun.¬† Ellie started school, which she¬† was excited about.¬†She has already lost a new coat. We’re hoping she finds it today, because of course I hadn’t wrote her name in her new coats yet.

On the house front, I’ve been reading everyone’s advice on last weeks Inspiration: Exterior post. And I’m still really undecided. So I decided to use my art skills and color an exterior photo and see what that looks like. I know, you are blown away by my coloring skills. I just had a .jpeg of the exterior and opened it in Microsoft Paint. Some bloggers I follow are really fancy and have photoshop programs and others. Well you aren’t gonna get that here. I’m pretty sure if you compared this with one of Peyton’s drawings, you may not be able to tell them apart. But it gets you an “idea” of what the exterior might look like. This blue is a shade brighter than what I’m thinking. But I couldn’t get it just right with the color choices in paint. So imagine with me. Sue said it looks like a Seahwaks house. So I am still considering a dark grey. I found a new color called Perfectly Greige. I’m considering. But my eyes always wonder back to the Navy’s/Blue. Ugh, decisions.

Ellie had her first cheer games Saturday. It was a bit long. The first game was at 9, then the second at noon. The girls were done by the second game, there¬†were no firm motions, arms were just flailing. Also, it was hot for WA. Now try not to be too judgey here, but I ran my kids to McD’s before the second game to get some food in them. I pull up to order their happy meals, and both of them start yelling at me from the back telling me HOW to order their meals. People, this is not my first time through the drive-thru. I’ve ordered them more happy meals than I’d like to admit. I got this OK. Why my kids think I have no clue on how to order their meals baffles me. And to top it off, I got the soft spoken employee who I can hardly hear. So, you probably see where this is going, I have to turn and yell at my kids to stop telling me how to order their meals…in my mom voice. Then I turn back to the screen saying THANK YOU. Yeah, his face was pretty classic when I got to the window.

We had a fun family night Saturday night. Ron and Sue were gone, so we had the house to ourselves. Karlye and Josh brought steaks over and we grilled them up for dinner. I had gone to the store earlier in the day and bought some Sangria. The evening then turned into beauty shop, Karley began making my hair into¬†an afro and Ellie put a bunch of braids in Karlye’s hair. Then the kids went to sleep. We drank some more sangria and somehow Karlye began chasing Josh around the island with the mop, then he grabbed the broom. It was more funny if you were halfway into a bottle of sangria. We then made chocolate chip cookies at 9pm, cuz it sounded really good. And we ate the dough. These are the times I really like living with so much family. Its always entertaining.

Today Kyle is meeting with the TRUSS guy. Hopefully its all put together. If there is any luck at all, we can put our whole package together and submit it to the county by the end of the week. My fear is, after talking to others, is that this building permit approval thing is going to take fooorreevvveerrrrr (insert dramatic tone). One person told me it took them a year to get it all approved to begin building! I will have a total freak out if¬† that happens. I’m realistic, I know it will not take a week, but after a month or so I expect something. So I”m sure my next several posts will be all about the waiting. At least in the meantime kyle can keep clearing and begin installing the septic system.

To end the post. Here’s a cute picture of Peyton and Bailey cuz who doesn’t love babies in baths.

Inspiration: Exterior

So I am told that the first major design decision I need to make is the exterior. Like what siding do I want, what pattern, etc. Color comes later (I think) but it has to be all planned out. I have thought a lot about this, and there are tons of different options. So I’ll show you my faves, and what the pros and cons are to me. Then you take the survey below and help me. Who doesn’t love a survey?!

Option 1: I LOVE this color. This is the Young House Love show house. The color is called newburg green by Benjamin Moore. I think its a nice pop of color without screaming. I see it being a nice alternative to the greys and browns. And I like how this house has a cozy PNW feel to it with the natural cedar.
Pros: Color, Ceadar accents, white trim, rock trim, single post, shingle siding painted and lap siding.
Cons: Can the same concept be acheived on a single story, kyle is not a fan of painted shingles

Option 2: I like how clean and neutral this look is. Its a classic, something everyone likes. I like how it uses a combo of all the materials: lap, shingle and board & batten. Plus the rock. And this has the dlb post colums.
Pros: Color, materials.
cons: Do I want grey like everyone else? Well all the materials make it look pieced together?

Option 3: Now you could go grey or blue with this scheme….which I like. Again, great PNW feel with the natural shingles. I don’t like the rock they used, but thats easy to change. Has shed and peak dormers like us. And its hard for me to tell, but I think this house has grey windows.

Pros: mix of color and materials.
cons: Looks like we counldn’t decide and threw everything on the house.

Whats a girl to do?! Kyle is on the fence about blue. He loves grey. He hates white…but its so clean and crisp. But we do live in the PNW where it rains, so would the house also have dirt splats on it?
This house is Chip and Joanna Gaines (Magnolia)¬†house in Waco, TX. Of course I have a special place for that since I lived in waco for almost 3 years. I love Joanna’s style and so wish I could go visit her shop for some decor. You can watch them on HGTV on their show Fixer Upper. They have great ideas.
Now granted, all these pics show houses with WHITE windows and WHITE trim. BUT, I’m not married to that. Because I have seen a lot of houses with black or grey windows too. And I kind of like it.

So what would you do? To remember what our exterior looks like, go to the Floor Plan page and they are almost at the bottom. There is no pic of the back, but it too has two peaks.
¬†I think the survey’s are fun. I love getting your feedback. Do you like the surveys?¬†Also, I think I set the answers to let you pick multiple answers, if you can’t commit to just one- story of my life. So that may or may not be helpful ūüôā

Baby step towards progress

It may be little, but I will take whatever I can get. This past week we got water. Yes, I can mark “well drilled” off my list. We were estimating the well to be around 200 ft. The driller called and said he hit water at 217 ft. After putting “stuff” in (there’s boxes, and screens and things I know nothing about) the total came to 220ft. So we are pretty happy about that. When I see the bill, it will still feel like a punch in the stomach, but you gotta have water. So what does this mean now? Well the driller takes a water sample to the county, they analyze it to make sure the water is drinkable- which shouldn’t be a problem. Once that is all cleared, our septic permit is released. Yes, we had to apply for it before the well…but you can’t do anything with it until there is a water source and its OK’d by the county. Makes zero sense to me, but whatever. So Kyle can now work on installing the septic. And since that’s he’s biz, we will be saving lots of $$.

Now, most of you would think that was the highlight of my week. Well your wrong. Its great…but bigger things happened. JIMMY JOHNS sandwich shop is coming to the Westside of Olympia. I know, calm yourselves, its finally happened! I am a passionate girl about my sandwiches. I love the beach comber. And I love how when I order it (especially on-line, when working in our Tacoma office cuz they’ll deliver. BONUS) they have to *warn* me about the sprouts. I like to live dangerously people, I’m eating the sprouts.

This week, Karlita (aka SIL Karlye) has been whipping up delicious dinners at Casa de la Camus. We’ve had chicken fried rice, beef stroganoff, and chicken with oven roasted zucchini and squash covered in Parmesan cheese.¬† I’m not gonna lie, I kind of pretend I’m a super rich person, and she’s my chef. I stroll in with the kids and dinner is served. I imagine that’s what it like. But then reality hits and I turn into “Lupe” and I clean everything up. Its nice for a moment though. And it is totally OK for me to give us Hispanic names, because I’m part Cuban, so no discrimination is happening.

Oh now, Karlye and I had a funny mom moment, and I saw a flash into the future with Ellie. We were watching a rerun of Modern Family. And I actually hadn’t seen this episode. Claire (mom) was having a day with Alex (daughter) when it was realized, Alex didn’t think Claire was cool anymore. Alex didn’t want her around her friends at the mall, etc. Claire was devastated, obviously. Then Alex hopped in the car, gave her mom a speech that I knew was fake immediately- thinking she was schmoozing Claire over. Claire gives her $40 to go shopping, just because. As Alex thinks she’s “won”, Claire rolls down the window and shouts to Alex-in front of her friends- “oh sweetie, make sure you buy a training bra with that money, your little boobies are starting to poke out. Love you kitten!” And drives off! Oh…I am putting that in my pocket for when its needed because I have no doubt that it will be needed one day.

Friend plug-¬†I got stocked up this week on my supportive Cougar wear for Ellie’s cheer, oh and Kyle’s football too. Everything is glitterfied in cougar colors with CAMUS labeled on everything. So here’s my speech, support your local school and look good doing it. Go to Glitter and Ice facebook page and they can whip you up whatever you want…bedazzeled of course! We have some tshirts, a water bottle, and a stadium seat. She does merchandise for all the local schools (Oly, Tum, NT, RR, etc).

Friday we went down to Portland to visit SIL Lynsie and to do some school clothes shopping for Ellie. The kids got way more clothes than they needed, but the sales were just so good. The Gymboree outlet store everything was $12.99 or less!
Ok. I went school supply shopping for Ellie. I was really proud of myself, I went to Wal-Mart and got nearly her whole list for $35! That was including the $9 earbuds needed for the classroom ipad. BUT we did not get the square pink erasers becasuse they were out. That is just crazy talk. Also, we did not get pencils. Ellie’s school, as well as I think the entire county, has required that they get a certain brand. Appearantly they are the best pencils ever. The lead is perfectly in the center or something,¬† they don’t break as easily, and are probably environmentally friendly. I don’t know if these things are “hand crafted” pencils or what. They are SOLD OUT everywhere. So being the genius that I am, I amazon-primed that shit and it will be here on Saturday. BOOM. And that only cost me an additional $8. Obviously not counting the prime membership, but that doesn’t get factored in and it is worth its weight in gold.
And in a last note, I will NOT be winning the sister of the year award again this year. My sweet little sister loves to borrow my clothes and shoes and she loves this particular pair of wedges. Last summer a strap broke on them and I was super sad. She found a nearly identical pair by the same brand and bought them for me. At the same time, I had taken the original pair to the shoe shop and had them fixed. So when I was moving I was like “i don’t need these, I’ll give them to April.” Well‚Ķshe wore them on Saturday night. I get a text from her “Oh my gosh Mandy I just fell down at a comedy show because that wedge broke again and the F-ing comedian called me out!!!! So embarrassed!!!” Lets just say I was crying laughing. I know, super supportive of me. I sent her the crying-laughing emoji. She replies back “He says “oh look at the drunk girl””. Then to top it off she tells me she’s on a date! So I’m pretty sure I’m gonna have to take her shoe shopping to make up for this. Her pride and knee are bruised.¬†
House plans got copied and they were distributed to the heating air guy to do energy calcs. That’s needed for our building permits. And then another copy went to the framer guy to get a bid from the Truss company. That’ll be a big number. On the last plan, the bid came in at $18k. Given this house is bigger and one level, more trusses will be needed. But from what I’m told, we need just regular trusses, where the last bid, the whole second floor was bonus room trusses which costs more becasue they are thicker. So…maybe it’ll be about even. One can hope.

Inspiration: Living Room

Survey says: There is a survey at the bottom of the post. Help a girl out with all these decisions! Click NEXT button to submit survey answers. Thank You!!

I Figured I would focus on this room next, since its in the main area of the Kitchen and dining too. We have a large open concept as you will be able to see from the layout on the floor plan page.¬† So everything needs to flow together well. Not sure how I will pull that off, but I’m gonna try. Again our walls/ceiling will be 9ft and vaulted. So it’ll have a nice big feel. I’ve seen pictures with a big lighting piece in the middle…and I like that sometimes. Kyle will most likely want to just go with can lights, and I’m ok with that too. My “not gonna budge” platform is pedants above the island in the kitchen. So I could spend more there if I don’t get a big light above the living room.¬† Also, there will be a big light hanging down in the entry way, and you will see that from the LR. So I don’t want to over-do it (can’t belived I said that!)

One feature that Kyle and I agree on is the patio slider. We were originally going with a 16’w x 8’h slider. Kyle consulted with some GC’s he works with and they don’t love them. They said for some reason the 16′ tend to have leak issues, and if you¬†go down to the 12′ they just haven’t seen that happen. So we were like “eh, 12′ works.” So it will be a 4-panel 12′ slider. Like this, except no upper windows on ours, these are most likely 10ft walls/ceiling:

Now, as far as furniture goes, I’m all over the place I feel. I think I really want a sectional couch. This way a lot of people can sit in the LR, its comfy, etc. I also like chairs with fun patterns and a rustic/industrial sort of coffee table. I don’t feel I’ll need lamps, or a bunch of tables for knick knacks- not my thing. But side tables are good for beverages.

So I am a visual person. And I have found it hard to find pictures of living rooms without a fireplace as the main focal point. We will just have a wall with a TV mounted on it. Might do a built-in cabinet, might not. The wall is not a full wall, there will be an opening to go to the hall to the kids rooms. This one picture seems to be an exact replica of what we’ll have, just flip flopped (opening to hall on left, not right)

Okay, now side point- What is the story with all this white boards/planks for walls and ceiling?! I get that its part of the farmhouse look. But I just don’t think I can make that design commitment. All I can think about is how 30 years ago cedar/wood paneling was big, and now it looks horrific. And in every remodel show people are ripping that off the walls. So would I be doing that with the white boards? HELP! What do you like in your living room? Is it all about comfort? Style? or just a hodge podge of sutff?

2 months! and still boring

Things are boring because everything seems the same! The well drilling truck is still sitting there. He drilled for a few hours over 2 days. Then had a vacation planned. Geez, doesn’t he know I’m dying for some progress here?! So hopefully today or tomorrow we’ll hit water and be done with that. Until I have to see the bill and write the check, scary.

Kyle finally finished the drawings and gave me the OK to have copies made. So I’m doing that today so we can get copies to the Truss company. Also, pass a copy on so we can get the permits started. September sounds like its going to be super expensive.¬†Our house has turned out a little bigger than we planned. Which means more $$.¬† We talked about it and feel that there’s nothing we want to change, and if thats the sqft it came out to be, well we will just bite the bullet and do it. Grand total:4054 sqft. The main level is 3092 sqft and the bonus room is 962 sqft. We will most likely¬†build with the bonus unfisished at first. Saves money in the permit process and when the county¬†assess the hosue for taxes purposes. Then we’ll finsih the bonus room after we move in, if we have any money left!¬†ūüôā¬†

As far as life goes on the Camus compound its been busy. Ellie has cheer M T and Th. So we aren’t home until 8.¬† I had book club Tuesday night, love catching up with the girls. Our book this month was The Vactioners. It was a quick light read. We had a breif discussion about it, but we are really bad at staying focused and end up discussing personal stories that relate…which I love.

Thursday was a fun day. Ellie and I both got to go to the salon and get haircuts. A little bonding time. Then we came home and I was asking Sue how her interview went (interviewed for a new para job at another elementary school). Of course she was saying “I don’t know, it was weird and akward. I don’t know what they thought” blah blah blah. As she’s telling me all this, the phone rings, and shes like “its the school!!” They offered her the job of course. She was so funny, jumping and sqealing. So we congratulated her and ran out the door for Ellie to go cheer at a scrimmage match.

Saturday was Kyle and I’s 11 year wedding anniversary, and honestly we did nothing. He was sweet and told me “happy anniversary” about 20 times. It was just too crazy to plan something. He had 2-a-day football practice, I had to go to a cousins bridal shower. So I’ll just save that “did nothing” in my back pocket for something.¬†

Sunday was a fun and busy day. We woke up early that morning. Ellie asked “what day is it?” I replied Sunday, so shes asks “why do I have to be up so early?!” Cheer Ellie, always cheer. Sunday was the league’s jamboree. And Ellie was schedule to cheer at 9, but we had to be there at 8.¬† So we scrambled and ran out the door. We spent the morning watching her, then hit Costco for some dog food. I got out of there only spending $45! That never happens. Must have been because Kyle was with me.¬†¬†

We went home for the day and I spent a few hours cleaning Ellie’s closet and drawers. We are going school shopping Friday and I needed to see what still fits and what does she really need. Kyle and my BIL Josh began the process outside of pressing apples to make hard apple cider. This was an all day process of course. But they enjoyed it. It is so messy, and luckily the bees weren’t out really. Papa Ron waited for high tide then took the kiddos out on the boat to go set out a crab pot. They weren’t sure what to think of that and got on the boat reluctantly. They were gone about 2 hours and came back with huge smiles on their faces. They caught 12 crabs! They thought that was so cool.

We ended the weekend tired but lots of fun times. My goal this week house wise is to 1) get copies made; 2) get new bid for windows- since the house has changed from the last bid. 3) stay on top of kyle to get permits started! 4) get some water in that well.

Inspiration: Dining Room

So last Thursdays inspiration post focused on the kitchen, I though this week I would share the dining room since they are connected. As you read last week, I will have a black and white kitchen primarily. And I like the industrial pendants, and barstools. So with my dining room part of me was thinking to soften that look a little, and then I also like the¬†farmhouse looks too. For me the big investment should be the table. Something I will love and will last through style changes. Chairs are a huge desgin factor, you can add color texture and everything between with chairs. Chairs also get stained and worn, so I have to get something that will possibly be changed 5 years later. Here’s my top 3 looks so far:

As you can see, I like the fabric chairs and a different chair for the ends. Such a defining seat. A Dining room should feel comfotable and inviting, with a touch of WOW. For me anyways. Also, I want a kickass light. Statment piect. I really like the idea of a bench too at the table, along the backside. Kyle hates it, says how will people get in and out easily. I don’t think of that, just that it looks cute. Idea #2 has a bench with it:

What’s funny, I’m really curious to see if we ever eat in it! We had a “nook” in our last house with a small 4 person round table. We probably ate at it a dozen times the whole 9 years we lived there. We are a bar family, always up at the counter eating. But there is definetly a purpose for a dining room and if this is going to be our forever home I will eventually be hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, and you need a table for that. Thats what I tell Kyle anyway.

Thoughts? How do you like your dining room styled?

7 week itch

Yes week 7 of our new lifestyle. And whats happened…..Monday morning began with discovering that Tubbs our dog had tangled with a porcupine in the night. He had 6 or so quills in his lip. So¬†Kyle was kind¬†enough to pull them out. Let’s hope Tubbs has learned his lesson. ¬†Ellie also¬†started cheer practice with TCYFL. Oh how it keeps us busy, but oh how she loves it so much. It was like 97 degrees that day, and then clouds rolled in making it muggy. We are Washingtonians, we don’t do muggy. I had a maxi dress on, and it was still too heavy. I’m not sure who had it worse at practice, the moms sitting on the sidelines watching, or the girls jumping around. Everyone looked gross. So I worked all day, then got to go sit in the sauna outside for 2 hrs. The plus to this: I didn’t have to cook dinner OR clean the kitchen after family dinner! A plate was¬†waiting for us when we got home. Ellie has practice M W and Th nights, so I’m liking this no cooking or cleaning scenerio. Oh we had to stop by the old house to pick up a package that accidentally got delivered there. So Ellie’s with me and gets out of the car too, she sees on the porch this bicycle planter thing. Well appearantly she had got it for me last year on mothers day (totally forgot), and I had left it behind for the new owners to plant something in. She was mortified “MOM! I got that for you!” So I said, oh really well…I guess we can take it back. So I awkwardly took this planter off the new owners porch, that was mine..but now isn’t. Not sure what the rules are on that. (Sorry Chantelle!)¬†Oh, and as we left Breve was there¬†laying on the sidewalk. He looked good, we petted him and told him how much we miss him. He did not care.

Tuesday was Miss Ellie’s 8th birthday! I can not believe how old she is. Every year I lay in bed and make Kyle listen to me remeber going into labor. And us having no idea what we were getting into. Ellie woke up and asked for a bagel with cream cheese for her bday breakfast…OK. Then I called her at 10:43am to tell her “officially” happy birthday. That night she had cheer again, and now it was still muggy but not as hot. The cheer girls sang her happy bday, and she ate cookies all the way home that Sunny (alternate mom/nanny) made her. We ran home, grabbed Peyton and headed to my parents for the kiddos to have a sleepover. Nana made her her favorite dinner of Chicken and Dumplings. I than went back to the compound, where Sue had ordered a new Fax machine/Printer and I was asked to install it. Sue was at Bunco (I love bunco BTW) so I kicked Ron out of the office, he was not a good assistant. He was as bad as Peyton, kept moving everything I was taking out of the box…I have a method! So, I spent the next hour hooking up this new wireless contraption, and did so successfully.¬† I asked if this covered my rent for the month, the reply was barely!

Miss Ellie August 12, 2006

Wednesday was a mellow day. No cheer that day, and no where officially to be. Peyton and Kyle went down to the Columbia River to go Salmon fishing with Ron and Sue. So Ellie and I had the entire house to oursleves! I splurged and got us our favorite pizza from Brewery City Pizza- Cheese with Asiago sauce. We ate the whole thing. It was so good.

Thursdays adventrue involved a deer. While Ellie and I were at cheer practice, Karlye came over to the main house to use the grill for dinner. As she’s outside grilling, she notices a deer laying in the grass in the side yard. Obvisously shes intriqued by the fact the deer is just laying in the yard. Upon further examination she discovers its dead. Yes, just appearently keeled over and died in the yard. Josh looked it over, no gun wounds, or vehicle wounds. So either it had a heart attack or something. Anyone ever heard of something similar? Anyway, coudln’t leave it there, so he drug it off with the 4-wheeler.

Ellie and I had the house for 2 nights to ourselves. I made sure to clean up Friday so my laziness wasn’t so obvious. I was watching Bailey for the day, and Ellie had her bday party at painted plate.
It was a little busy. First, I completely spaced and in my head was thinking it was Saturday, so¬†being downtown and parking I didn’t pay the meter and got a nice $15 parking ticket. Oopps. After the party I was craving some nuts, so we went to Farmers market. I was just “running in” so I carried Bailey in with me. OMG, there was the whole stinking family in front of me sampling every signle nut the lady had. “oh this one is spicy, oh this one is sweet, blah blah blah”. I was like I know what I want and I”m holding a 30lb baby, HURRY IT UP! I swear we were there 20 minutes waiting for all of them to decide which nuts they wanted. Of course when I get up there, Bailey immediately knocked a box off nuts over…yeah. I forget babies can do that. I got my large bag of coconut-lime almonds and was happy to escape.

We finally made it home, and to my surprise the well drilling truck was sitting on our property!!! YEAH!!! finally. No drilling was actually taking place I learned, but they are starting that today. My estimate is $12k for this. This will be our first major expense, in a long line of expenses I’m sure. We may not have a house yet…but we will¬†have water!

Kyle finished most of the exterior drawings this weekend. Tried to take some pics to show you guys. He says he has ONE more to do and promises it’ll be ready to send to the engineer tomorrow. Let’s get this show on the road! So this top picture here is the front of the house. I like the look of two story’s but ours is not a 2-story. So, this large dormer will have windows that are open inside, high ceiling thing. Does that make sense?

View of Garage/Bonus room. That little door in the middle goes into the laundry room.

Inspriation: Kitchen

So on Thursdays I’m going to start doing house inspirations posts. This is a house building blog, in addition to document our living arrangements. I’ll break it down by rooms, and I welcome all feedback.

The area of my main focus has been the kitchen. The cabinets, its all I ever talk about right?! My want is to have a black and white kitchen. To me, thats a classic. I can change the bar stools, I can add color with bowls and accessorys, but the staple of black and white will always be the backdrop. Seems easy. The idea is…now its which cabinets, which countertops even! ugh. So here are the photos that are inspring me now…until I find one I like better.

This is the pic that started the black and white idea. This kitchen is more modern than what i’m thinking. But overall, color and lights, is what I like. ÔĽŅ

But of course there are other photos..with different things I like with rustic touches.

Beyond color is also the details. I like the shaker cabinet look the best. I don’t want too many grooves. Also, function. Subway backsplash is a must, as well as¬†super fabulous bar stools.

And then countertops. Whats a girl to choose. I really like the idea of Absolute black honed granite for the white perimeter cabinets. I hear those who hate black..always looks dirty. Then when it comes to the island, I just don’t know. Marble is too pourous. I don’t want just plain white. But if it has movement it has to be just right, becasue there will be a seam. Such hard decisions. And there are pros and cons to them all. I wish one would jump out and have a flashing light saying “I’m the perfect top!” That would be too easy though. ÔĽŅ

And to top it all off, literally, is height. Do I have the cabs go to the ceiling with molding? Or Stagger? Or just leave space? My ceilings are 9ft…so either way works, just depends on how much $$ we want to spend.
